Review: Starcraft II

sc2

Starcraft, It’s like a futuristic version of chess. But in all of its glorified chaos and action, there’s a certain sense of order and wits’ end involved. It’s not just any ordinary video game. And It’s actually taking quite the toll on my mental ability to keep up.

1. There’s counters for practically every situation.

  • You’re playing as Terran vs. Zerg? Cool. They got a formidable a force of Banelings? That’s frightening enough to consider surrendering. Anyways, build Marauders and tech into their slowing ability, that’ll increase your units chance of survival before impact, especially when facing their infamous suicide bombers. Can I say “Kamikaze”?

Banelings and Marauders

2. Every second counts.

  • It’s a race against time. Both parties start out the same but their end is as unpredictable as it gets.
  • Depending on what you do with your workers, you can acquire all the materials you need to win! But it’s at the cost of not producing much needed muscle to keep enemies at bay. It’s a risk and you’d have to gamble it all on expanding to valuable resources that’ll bolster your economy and your forces.

3. Variety

  • Every race (Terran, Protoss, Zerg) is different and how to effectively utilize each race’s full potential is a never-ending battle on its own.
  • Let’s take Zerg for example. They’re known to be the fastest race to expand because of their lower costs but susceptible to defeat because of their generally lower life expectancy on the battlefield. But then again, they have the ability to fully reproduce a whole army faster than they die. In the end, it’s all up to the individuals controlling the battlefield!

4. It’s like you’re suddenly a general!

  • You have to take in many considerations before making your next move.
  • The map’s unique geographics, what resources are nearby, who your enemy is, what race you’re playing against, and what you think their next play will be.
  • It’s do-or-die and if you lose, you’re the only one to blame because most of the time you’re playing in a 1v1 setting. Thrilling isn’t it?

I give this game a solid 5/5 :D

But not everyone may agree with my opinions so go on ahead and drop a message! Let me know what you think of this game personally!
